General information about studying in the Netherlands

Many Dutch universities and institutes of professional education are conducting a growing number of their study programmes and courses in English. The Netherlands Organisation for International Co-operation in Higher Education (Nuffic) aims at making education accessible all over the world, especially in countries where educational infrastructure is lagging behind. You will find all necessary information about the Nuffic and studying in The Netherlands at Externe link www.nuffic.nl and at Externe link www.studyin.nl

Netherlands Fellowship Programmes: Objectives and Target Group

NFP are financed from the Netherlands' government budget for Development Cooperation. The overall aim of NFP is to help alleviate qualitative and quantitative shortages of skilled manpower and to do so within the framework of sustainable capacity building directed towards reducing poverty in developing countries.

More specifically, NFP is focused on meeting the need for further training and capacity building in a wide range of governmental, private and non-governmental organisations (educational institutions, planning agencies, ministries, community-based organisations, private enterprises etc.). The NFP target group consists of mid-career professionals who are already in employment and who have built-up at least 2 years of appropriate working experience. To be eligible for an NFP fellowship, candidates must be nominated by their employers.

The Netherlands Fellowship Programme offers the following options for professionals in developing countries:

  • Fellowship for Masters Degree Programme
  • Fellowship for Short Course
  • Fellowship for PhD studies
  • Tailor Made Training
  • Refresher Course

More information on these programmes including the deadlines for the application can be found at the Externe link nuffic website.

Very important!!

For students attending courses lasting more than 3 months in the Netherlands:
The university or institution makes the application of MVV in favour of students coming to the Netherlands. Upon issue of the approval of MVV (authorisation for temporary stay) visa by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the student has to report to the embassy and before getting the visa he (she) has to fill the application form and has to submit it with attachments including a copy of the admission letter, airticket and the passport.

The MVV application takes 3 months minimum. It is recommended to the students to check with the learning institution if the application procedure has started in due time because some students have problems to get the visa at the last minute.
Legalized birth certificate is not required when applying for MVV.

Interested applicants may also visit the Embassy Monday to Friday morning 08.30hr till 11.30 hrs for information.
