1. VISA Requirements for Schengen visa

Processing time for visa applications does take at least two weeks. An application for a Schengen visa (business/tourism) must be presented to the representative of the country where the stay is the longest. If this cannot be established, an application must be directed to the representative of the country where the first entry into Schengen territory is made. Main destination visas must be obtained before applying for the Schengen visa. Each application must be made in person, and must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Valid passport (minimum validity 3 months after expiry of visa); or temporary passport no older than 6 weeks plus a copy of your identity document;
  • 1 complete and signed application form (available at the Embassy/Consulate)
  • One recent passport photograph;
  • Proof of purchase of foreign currencies (original receipt from exchange bank + stamp "foreign exchange provided" on ticket OR a letter from bank STATING AMOUNT available for foreign exchange)
  • Original return ticket plus photocopy (no hand written tickets will be accepted);
  • No open dated tickets will be accepted;
  • Proof of pre-paid accommodation (fax from the hotel, no hotel vouchers) or letter of invitation (no e-mails accepted)
  • If staying for more than 40 days, a letter of guarantee from The Netherlands is required;
  • For business purposes, a letter from the employer in Rwanda is required, confirming the business visit; as well as an invitation letter from a company in The Netherlands;
  • International travel insurance for the duration of stay in the Schengen countries;
  • A personal interview can be requested at the discretion of any visa officer
  • Both parents of minor children must appear in person to submit written and certified consent to the consular officer handling the visa application.

Visas for a longer period than 90 days or for the purpose of taking up employment are not subject to this agreement. They are still subject to national legislation of the country of destination. They must be applied for with the consular authorities of the country concerned.

• As a rule it is not allowed to change the reason or purpose of a visit.

• Due to the exchange rate the cost of a visa can change regularly. Please confirm before handing in visa applications.

For stays longer than 90 days (MVV) a special procedure is required. Please inform with the Embassy
